Proudly presenting the first cattery to introduce the Norwegian Forest Cat into Thailand

Thank you for visiting my web site. My name is Dr. Pinlubtaporn Naksomboon. When I studied abroad my friends called me “Didi” because they cannot pronounce my name. I live in Nontaburi province, Thailand which is close to Bangkok with my cats and my maids. I’m pretty lucky because my house is near my Kindergarten and my Elementary School so I can run my School and I can drop by to see my cats at home too. I also teach part-time to graduate students in many famous universities in Thailand.

When do I start to like cat?

At first, my friend bought me one red Persian cat, I gave her name “Mulan”. She is not pure blood and no pedigree, but I really love her. She was sick so often, my veterinarian suspected the problem of her genetic so Mulan has to be neutered. I feel pity her when she is home alone so I’m looking for the new friend for her. This time I can choose the breed cat for my own.

As a scholar, I always read and research many thing that I‘m interested in….. Like cats, before I decided to raise one of my own , I had to study the characteristics of the cat, how hard or easy to care for and to support my requirements. Because the cat will be with me all of their life, I need to find the best. I also have to know their background to keep track of their generation, to see how their genetics and colors will be, also I can find a mate to suit him or her in the future. I don’t like to see so many people leave their cats or dogs on the street or the temple when they get bored or don’t want the responsible of them. I really pity those pets, it is not their fault to deserve that kind of life.

Mulan, My first cat.

Why do I raise Norwegian Forest cat?
In my opinion if you are looking for a long haired, big, beautiful, friendly and gentle feline companion, that sheds its coat every season, the Norwegian Forest Cat is an excellent choice. Most are not lap cats like Siamese. The male NFC’s can weigh 6-10 kg’s though you don't have to pet them all the time. When he needs your attention, he'll purr and walk to you, quietly. But the limitation is the weather, in Thailand it is hot and humid. We don’t have snow for him/her to play. ( Only the ice from my refrigerator) But if I don’t start, Thai people may have never heard the name or seen the Norwegian Forest cat. (If my neighbor can raise Saint Bernard dogs, why I can’t I raise NFC’s. Don’t you agree?) So I arranged an air conditioned room to control the temperature for them, also, during day they can walk and play in the house with their toys and have a view of the birds in the garden. They also have my maid to keep them company while I’m away. Since I don’t have kids or family (only the kids at my school) to take care of, I have to carefully choose my companion. They must have good pedigree and be the best quality too.
I think I‘m lucky to get to know the real professional, moral, responsible and honest breeder like Ms. Monica Lundqvist from Dunderkatten’s Cattery in Finland to be my mentor. Otherwise I would not get such a perfect cat with a good personality, sweet temperament, a good profile and a gorgeous brushy tail, easy to take care of and with champion bloodlines within all 4 generations. She also referred me to many of the NFC professional breeders for me to get to know. I also thank Hilkka from Fanfaron Cattery to trust me to raise her boy. Indeed she wanted to keep Fanfaron CH. Quint for her queen. Besides the books and all the information through the internet, Ms. Monica also educates and advises me on how to develop the NFC breed.

My commitment and my plan
I commit myself to develop the breed of my cat so as not to become extinct, and to perfect the breed and to promote the new breed that Thai people have never seen . My cat is not only a backyard pet. I separate male and female. Both have their own bedrooms with toys and scratch poles. They can visit each other frequently. The other cat (Mulan) have the run of the house. Norwegian Forest Cats love to be up high, so in their room I built floor to ceiling towers for their climbing and lounging pleasure. When the no rain or not so hot, the cats can enjoy the view of the water-fall in my yard and watch birds on the big tree near the swimming pool . My maid need to clean up the room, food & water tray and cat’s toilet everyday to keep free from parasites, worms and fleas and I use only the best quality of cat food. I want my cats healthy and to live with me as long as they can.
I always take my cats to show whenever there are cat shows, (only if he/she is healthy) even though in Thailand we don’t have many cat shows. I plan to take them to show in other countries as well. I want to add more value to my cats, as much as I can because I don’t want to disappoint the breeder. Also I can have a chance to exchange knowledge with Thai breeders. Some times I help the Thailand Cat Club as an interpreter for the cat shows too. ( see cat show for detail of award)

Our Vet

My Veterinarian
Lucky me again to have such a nice veterinarian Doctor Visuit Triemvitit (license #01-3234/2544), Doctor Sasipon Pumkumarn (license # 01-2745-2542) also Doctor Praw and their teams from Tiwanondh Animal hospital, Nontaburi Tel 02- 589-4529. They really care and educate me how to raise a, healthy cat, provide good nutrition etc. for my cats. I can get their advice most of the time especially when my cat need help. My veterinarian always check the health, nutrition and sanitary condition every other week for my cats.

Why the web site and the name of cattery are different ?
I start this web site as www.thaicatcenter.com instead of the name of my Cattery “ Siamcat Cattery “because of two reasons. First, someone took it already, Secondly, I would like to be the center for people outside Thailand who want to know about cats in Thailand. As English is the second language for Thai people, if you would like to inquire about cats in Thailand, feel free to contact me. Since I became interested in cats, I start to write books and magazines about cats in Thai language to promote the knowledge and how important it is to register the cat to keep the pure breed , and how to understand and take care of the cat too.
Since My Siamcat Cattery is a small Cattery and just started. I have kittens available only once a year at this moment. I prefer to keep them for myself but in the future, I know it is hard to keep them all the time. So if you are interested to adopt my baby“ kitten”. Kitten inquires are welcome, but please be prepared to tell me about yourself and your family . I have to make sure they will receive good care and are in good hands . All suggestions are always welcome too.
Thank you very much for your time
